The Appalachian School of Law opened its doors in 1997 and received full accreditation from the American Bar Association in 2006. ASL offers a full-time program of legal education, with emphases on alternative dispute resolution and professional responsibility. ASL has a well qualified faculty, including many professors with a strong background in legal practice, dedicated to excellent teaching and accessibility to students. ASL also has a strong commitment to community service. Through ASL's community service program, students participate in a project of their choosing for at least 25 hours each semester. The School actively seeks applicants from Tuition Exchange member schools. Recipients of the Tuition Exchange Scholarship are subject to the same retention criteria as the Angela Dales Merit Scholarship program.
